HP 8560w fingerprint reader problem -SOLVED-
Good day all,

I have just recently bought a second-hand HP 8560w Elitebook and discovered that this thing has a fingerprint reader....awesome.
I installed the driver, and it showed up in my hardware list (no "!" or anything, just that it works fine)

Though once I install a credential to make it work to log into windows, it tells me the reader is not connected.

I also can't start 'Biometric services' in the services.exe, it tells: "Error 1068, the dependendcy service or group failed to start"

What am I dealing with? Doesn't the reader recieve any power, and am I having an instable system? Or is this problem driver related?

HP support told me I should change my OS to the HP 'Image' windows 7 x64 OS, but I don't believe them this will make the difference. All my other drivers do work, and the driver-site of HP also lists windows 8 or windows xp drivers who are surely no HP image OS's

- Windows 7 x64 Ultimate (not the HP image OS)
- Updated BIOS

UPDATE:

The fingerprint sensor finally works, it appears that the new driver of Validity is corrupt and does not work. Install the previous version and you will see it works.

I want to thank the posters on this threat for their time and help! :D

Right click on the service, goto properties / dependencies. Maybe another service is deactivated for some reason.

I did turn on allowance of biometric devices on the Group Policy (gpedit.msc) editor.

Hi noidea_77, thanks for your quick reply!

It's shown in the devices section, but not in the configuration center.
