Slow SSD Boot Times w/ Storage HDD
Hi guys,

I've been experiencing really annoying issues with my new build, which I can't find any working solution to.
Basically, when I first built the PC, it was booting straight from the SSD, and it was insanely fast, about 8 seconds boot. However, after a day or so, I realised that I hadn't assigned a drive letter to my 3TB storage HDD. So, evidently, I went ahead and did that. Now, all of my boot times are considerably longer. Please advise if there is any way I can avoid this, maybe by stopping the HDD from spinning up until after windows flag boot, or something like that.

PC Specs

CPU: Intel Core i7 4770k @4.0GHz
SSD: Samsung 840 Pro 128GB
HDD: Seagate Barracuda 3TB
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z87X-OC
GPU: EVGA GTX670 4GB Superclocked
RAM: Kingston HyperX Beast (2x4GB)

Thanks

You should try going into your BIOS or UEFI and into the Boot Menu and then make sure that your Hard Disk is in the "Boot 1" slot. Then go into Hard Disk Drive BBS priorities and make sure your SSD boots first and then your HDD boots second. This is an older thread but I hope it helps. Better late then never.

Here's a video explaining it in more detail.

I had tried that, although I've got windows 8.1 now, and the problem is gone. The issue was after the BIOS selection anyway, as it was exclusively the windows flag that was slow.
