Would you recommend this build? 2 amd 7990 crossfire
Would this beast be a good build and how long do you think it could last, want to max games out on 1080p for at least 3 more years.

Update: I've now scored 18832. 22nd on the bored but still not showing. Do I have to run three for an average?

My firestrike score is 18518. Faster than most on my first try. Temp didn't breech any higher than 74c on even the first gpu. Which puts my 4770 7990's at 24th position in the hall of fame. I've recorded it and I'll post it on YouTube tonight. Funny thing is, it's not showing up in the hall of fame. Not sure why, but the video speaks for itself. I've also hone into depth over the setup. As in, how to.

Where i live 295x2 costs $1038 and two 7990 cards cost only $572 for both of them. I haven't been able to find any benchmarks for this situation but i think that 2x7990 will be faster than single 295x2.


That's going to be sketchy. There will certainly be times the 2x7990 would be faster (and sound like a jet engine), there will be other times it will show higher FPS, but give worse results, and many other times it'll flat be slower. You'll also have higher latency.

Don't do that setup unless you are being given those cards. The 295x2 is much better and seriously, what resolution are you running? Two of either card is just not giving you much with a load of problems. Only in the most insane situations would you consider such a setup, and even then, 1 of these cards is a better choice for most people.

The top left I have as an exhaust and the rest on the door/side are intake. I found this strange due to the top two being just in line with the heat build up between the two cards. Yet having the two top side exhaust and two lower must have created negative pressure as there was a 3c rise in temp and a 5c degree rise if all 4 side fans blew at the cards and so on. I must add, the case has two 230mm fans as stock. One top (roof) exhaust and one front bottom intake. I also have a bottom (floor) 120mm intake, a 200mm top inner intake and a 140mm rear exhaust in the standard area for exhausting. However I still wasn't achieving the cool temps I was hoping for. Under full load the temps of the top card were hitting 88c. Adding a simple 120mm exterior/external quick release fan mounted in the area between the two cards at what would be most cards exhaust point solved all the heat build up. Granted there's a fair few fans creating a mini hurricane in the case but a dam site cheaper than water cooling the two and albeit, quite pretty due to led on the fans. There's also the added bonus of the ram, motherboard etc being kept vrry cool too. I'll probably post a video on YouTube very soon to help others. Their a great card for the money and held the crown for the fastest consumer graphics card on earth until April this year, and helped greatly by the latest drivers, makes it a no brainer not to buy. In fact two SH is around the price of most 780ti's!

PS, I've managed to track down an email address of a guy at MSI in Taiwan (I think). He kindly posted a 120mm crossfire bridge for £8 via PayPal which arrived less than a week after. The idle temps are the same now but I don't have to crack the speed of the case fans at all. Whereas the max load temps are 74c on core 1 (always the hotter of the lot). I also must mention, I have no recognizable coil whine at all, with either card.

I'll dig up the email address for the contact at MSI I used to get a 120mm crossfire bridge and update it to this post.



Can you please post a video of your setup, or at least some pics? That would be great since i'm planning to go for the same setup :)

No.

First of all there is really no reason for it with one screen
Secondly, it is virtually impossible to cool
Third, I think (quad)crossfire would probably give you grief.

You have some serious questionable choices here for a 1080p solution.
1) 1080p is easily maxed with a single 7990.
2) You prepared to spend serious money on the GPU with a CPU which is slow for anything CPU bound, which leads to you bottlenecking the 7990's and even a single 7990 in a lot of games.

If you want to spend that kind of money, at least balance the system a bit. Go with an i7 3930k (still questionable, but may see more use than a 7990 quadfire) with the money saved on not getting the 2nd 7990.
