GTX 780 cooling, changing the stock cooler
Hey guys. I'm considering changing the stock cooler on my GTX 780 to a better one. On the one I have now the temps quickly reach 80 deg C when playing games like BF 4. If I ever should want to overclock it then I guess I will need better cooling. The card I have is a zotac version, but as far as I can tell it is identical to the nvidia reference model.

What cooler would you suggest, and why?

Also, how would you rate the difficulty of changing the cooler? From 1-10, where 1 is finding the right way to plug in an usb stick, and 10 is... something difficult.

By using firestorm and modifying the fan speed curve I've managed to get the temps to level out at 70deg C. It is a bit more noisy, but at least I don't have to worry about performance loss.

I don't think airflow is a problem, I have plenty of fans pushing or pulling so that cold air enters the front and bottom and hot air exits in the back and on the top of the chassis.

The card is the type with one fan, like this:

Since its a zotac card I'm going to try the firestorm software.

Exactly which Zotac card? They make both the single fan and dual fan types AFAIK.
Either will cause higher temperatures if the case has limited or poorly directed airflow.
The GTX780, like all the current Nvidia cards throttles at 80C due to the Boost 2 feature.
Afterburner/precision will allow a more aggressive fan profile to be set by you-more noise but a cooler card.

if you use afterburner or precisionX then you'll be able to modify the fan curve.

80 is not high for a GPU, they will throttle at 95C and they will run happily at 80C. I assume it is boosting anyway, can you increase the fan speeds?

I assumed it throttled at 80 C since the temp increased quickly to that point, and flattened once it hit 80 C. I don't think I can increase the speed of the GPU fan, but I can Increase the speed of the fans in my chassis. But if 95 C is the point it starts throttling then I don't see the point in increasing noise levels since there is no longevity or performance increase by doing so.

Thank you for the input!

In that case I guess I will have to stick to high temps.. :/
