1440 x 900 and a GTX 660 = OverKill ?
Hello Dear Fellows,
I have a 1440 x 900 LCD Monitor , so will the GTX 660 be overkill for this LCD Display?
Will I see difference in FPS when running at 1440 x 900 and 1080p ?
Can I choose high settings (not ultra) for games with this Display ?
How about GTA IV? BF3 ? Ghosts ?
( Don't tell me to get 1080p Display , Please answer my Question :)  )
Intel Pentium G3220 @ 3.0 x 2 GHz ( Haswell CPU)
Kingston Standard RAM ( 2 x 2 GB) @ 1333MHz
Western Digital Blue 500GB HDD @ 7200RPM
Gigabyte H81M-DS2 Motherboard
Thermaltake 630W (SPS-630) Efficiency 87%
LCD by Toshiba @ 1440 x 900 Resolution
ASUS SuperDrive..

It sure is. I'd say 30FPS, not 40+(for any computer really). But it's OK, 35FPS isn't too different than 60.
UPDATE: Your CPU is the Pentium which is dual core, and GTAIV gets real benefit from a 4 core CPU. 25-30FPS is what you should expect. When you get a 4 core CPU, you should see an increase of up to 40.

Honestly, given enough time, no card is overkill. You'll hear 90% of guys say a GTX780Ti is overkill for 1080p resolution, but given 3 years, it's guaranteed to have less than 60fps maxed out in some games or the other.
Get the 660. It's a good card for your system.

Yeah You are right mate :)  , Sure I will get the 660 , It's the maximum possible card that will not bottleneck ( or little bottleneck ) with my Rig , any higher then this , and the CPU will be bottleneck..
I honestly don't mind Medium Settings , nor a small Display as 1440x900 , As Long as my FPS Stay above 40+ ..
Can You tell me that with this RiG I can run GTA IV with 40+ ? I have heard GTA IV is the most horrible port.

Not all games on Ultra, so you still need to tweak some games to meet your desired frame rate (i.e. 60FPS).

This is my tweaking method:

1) Start FRAPS and the game.
2) Turn or force VSYNC OFF
3) Tweak quality settings for optimal visual that gives me 60FPS at least 90% of the time.
4) VSYNC ON. FRAPS OFF.
5) Repeat later if needed.

My only issue with Adaptive VSync is that it gives screen tearing in most pre-rendered cut scenes (kicks in below the target refresh rate so 30FPS video still has tearing).

Okay I will do this , after I get my card. Thanks :)
P.S. 40+ Consistent FPS is Okay for me :)

No it is not overkill. It will let you max out all games with ultra settings at 1440*900.Get the 660 its a good choice at that resolution.

I was thinking the same... Thanks.
