Trying to set up dual monitors
So I have a XPS 8500 with the default specs since I've bought it. The video card has a DVI slot and a HDMI slot. Recently I've gotten a second monitor. One is fine since the XPS came with a DVI to VGA adapter and I can run my VGA monitor just fine. However my second VGA monitor only has room for a HDMI spot to plug into. If I buy a HDMI to DVI cable and then connect that to a DVI to VGA adapter will I be able to run my monitor?

No, you'll need an active converter. VGA=analog, HDMI and DVI-D=digital, DVI-I=both. So even though a DVI-I to VGA adapter works, you can't do HDMI to DVI to VGA (you can't turn the signal from digital to analog) without an active converter like this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

So that is the only thing I need just that one active converter?

Yes.

Thank you. I will go out and buy one shortly :)

Dell XPS 8500 pc. Does the manual say whether you can and how to do this?

What resolution are your monitors. They maybe too much.

One is 1280x1024 the other I'm not so sure its alot smaller though. Old one that came with dells years ago. And yes, according to searches it should be perfectly fine to run two or more off the Dell XPS 8500
