R9 290 vs 290x vs GTX 780Ti
will the 290($400) serve me good for say 3 years. playing games at ultra for say 1-1.5 years at 1440p and medium/hogh for the next 1.5yrs at 1080p?

or should i go for 290x($550) or 780ti($700) approx?

as they vary so much in price i am not sure.

any other suggestions?

thanks

The R9290 will serve you for a good 3 years..

The only difference between R9 290 and the R9 290x is that the 'x' version is unlocked, meaning you can overclock it.. but that requires a custom cooler and all the bells and whistles.. overclocking is something that's rarely people do actually.. only advanced users will do it regularly.. also it has more stream processors.. if you got the cash, go for the R9 290x.. else the 290 will serve you just fine...

The difference between them is that the R9 290 is a 512-bit processor and the nvidia is a 384 bit processor.. so yeah the 290 has more bandwidth that you can use in case you go 4K gaming, it will shine there more than the 384 bit nvidia..

I use a HD 7950 (R9 280 - rebranded) and it runs all games at 1080p ultra.. it will come for another 2 years for me.. yours will come for 3.. I just said ultra.. if you can lower the settings a little bit more, it will come for even longer..
