Hi guys,
I have a PowerColor HD 7850 video card that I bought a couple of weeks ago:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...
And there is some kind of problem going on.
The temps are fine (about 27 degrees at idle), but the in-game performance of the card is so poor. There is so much lag / choppiness when playing games. And the games do not run smooth at all!
For example, I know that this card can run FIFA 14 on high settings. But when I play it on high or even medium, the gameplay performance is very bad. I think the fps is way too low then it should be. My previous card (HD 4850) could run this game perfectly on medium settings, but now the 7850 (which is better) is having difficulty playing on medium too.
I tried it with another game (watch dogs).
I know for sure that I could definitely run this game on lowest settings, but still same problem.
I installed all of the AMD drivers.
I have ample ram: 8gb ddr3.
I have a decent cpu: i5-4430.
But I don't know what's going on ... it is the drivers or the card?
Please help me!

Click the settings button, right above the product version number.
Then locate the "Monitoring" tab,3rd one from the left.
Then scroll untill you find "Core Clock" and then click it so it shows a checkmark next to the name, you can drag it up and down the list to change the graphs location in relation to the others.
Once that's done, play a game for a few mins with MSI AB minimized then check the graph to see if your core clock is running at full speed.

Ok, I have downloaded the software, but I'm not sure what exactly to do with it.
So here's a screenshot of what's it showing: (BTW, it's at idle conditions and I didn't mess with any settings) ...

At idle, it averages about 28 degrees.
And at load, when playing games in full screen, I think it averages at about 72 degrees.
thats higher than mine runs the hotest i have got mine is 64c @35% fan looping heaven over and over but this may be due to room temps
the folder thay want to remove is AMD/support it is tols about in the driver notes--
for my 7850 i still use the 13.4 driver i have played around with the 13.13 and the 14.4 in helping to see why theres so many issues with it
it loaded and seemd to work fine but 1 issue that came up was IE11 would crash sometimes apon exit with a atidxx.dll error and that cause me to uninstall IE11 and go back to IE9 that came native on windows 7 and i just loaded back the 13.4 driver that i have no issues with at all
when you go to the 14.4 driver download page this is what there to read before you install the driver
AMD has received feedback that some users are unable to install the Catalyst 14.4 driver on some motherboards with AMD chipsets. We have investigated the issue and have determined that it was caused by the AHCI driver component that was included with the driver package.
We have therefore removed the AHCI driver component from the driver package and will be providing it as a separate download.
If you were affected by this issue, we recommend you download and install this updated version of the driver.
Before installing this driver, please ensure you have uninstalled the previous driver using the Add/Remove programs option in the Control Panel and also deleted the installation folder for the previous driver. This folder can be found at the following locations:
C:/AMD/support/14-4-win7-win8-win8.1-64-dd-ccc-whql
or
C:/AMD/support/14-4-win7-win8-win8.1-32-dd-ccc-whql

i'm useing a p-c 7850 and it seems to do good here - what drivers did you use?I downloaded the drivers from the AMD website.
More specifically, the driver for the HD 7xxx series (for windows 8.1 64 bit):

PowerPlay.I havent heard of 7850s with this trouble, only 7790s and the R7 and R9 series.
Download MSI Afterburner and monitor your core clock when gaming, ill bet you're getting half the core speed you should while memory clocks will be normal.
Alright I will download this program.
But I never used it before. So can you please be a bit more specific ... as in where do I get the core clock speeds (when gaming) from the program?
Thanks.
Oh another thing, not sure if relevant, but my ddr3 ram is the corsair vengeance.
When I bought it, the details say it is 1600Mhz. But in my msi bios, it only reads as 1333Mhz.
I found out that I have to manually change the settings in the bios to get 1600Mhz.
However, I didn't mess with it, and kept it at 1333Mhz.
So is it fine like that? And is this any way responsible for the problem here?

Also, try keeping an eye on your CPU's and GPU's temps. It's possible that you have an overheating component. I frequently do monitor my temperatures, especially using AIDA64. (but I also have HWmonitor and AMD's CCC).
Ok so ...
The CPU, when idle, averages at about 28 degrees.
And in load (when playing games), it averages about 44 degrees.
For the video card...
At idle, it averages about 28 degrees.
And at load, when playing games in full screen, I think it averages at about 72 degrees.
So how are these temperatures? Are the load temps good? The gpu load looks a bit high.
Also another thing of note that I should point out is that in some programs the GPU video card temperatures sensors do NOT show up. Meaning, when I open HWmonitor or even CCC, I can see all other temperatures, EXCEPT the video card temperatures.
BUT, the only program which ALWAYS shows the gpu temp is AIDA, which is why I use it more often.
I don't know why the temperature doesn't show up in those other 2 programs, especially AMD's CCC.
Sometimes, I do get lucky and if I open any of those 2 programs, the temperature is there; it shows up.
But most of the time it does not.
Only AIDA always shows the temp for the video card, even when I open AIDA at the same time when other programs do not show anything.
Can this problem be a symptom of the bigger overall, main problem?

also if its the 14.x driver theres a amd folder you got to remove your self before you install it Yeah, when uninstalling, I did manually remove the AMD folders in program files and program files x64 ... after the main windows uninstallation program was done.
Is this what you are talking about, or is it something else?
