290x vs 290 vs 780
I don't know what card to get.
290x vs 290 vs 780
I am not sure about the 290x because of the heat issues on the cards.
These are my options
290x no.1: http://www.msy.com.au/home/12594-gigabyte-r929xoc-4gd-4...

290x no.2: http://www.msy.com.au/home/12761-asus-r9290x-4gd5-4gb-r...

290 no.1: http://www.msy.com.au/home/12720-asus-r9290-dc2oc-4gd5-...

290 no.2: http://www.msy.com.au/home/12733-msi-r9290-gaming-4g-4g...

290 no.3: http://www.msy.com.au/home/12638-sapphire-r9290-4gtx-11...

780 no.1: http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_i...

780 no.2: http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_i...

By the way I have a i5 4670k with an RM650. I know my psu will support the 780s but i'm not sure about the 290x.
What's the best for the price. (Buying a new psu to support the gpu isn't really an option)

I'l only ever be running at 1080p btw

I would go with the Asus GTX 780 or Gigabyte R9 290. The GTX 780 and R9 290 are about even in terms of performance when it comes to gaming. The GTX 780 uses less power than a R9 290.

I'm thinking about getting the 780 because I own quite a few Ubisoft games.

The RM 650 is sufficient to run a R9 290X. Your PSU will be fine running all the graphics cards you mentioned. However, it is insufficient in running any of the aforementioned graphics cards in CrossFireX or SLI configurations.

I only have one monitor but in the future I would want 3.
The problem is would the 290x work with my current psu or is it too low wattage (RM650)

I'd go with one of the 290Xs
What is your psu?

Get the Asus GTX780 or Sapphire R9 290 or Gigabyte R9 290x

The R9 290x is the most powerful (and expensive)

The GTX780 is more powerful than the R9 290 - http://gpuboss.com/gpus/Radeon-R9-290-vs-GeForce-GTX-78...

So this brings it down to the Asus GTX 780 - $600 or the Gigabyte R9 290x $640

They are close in performance - http://gpuboss.com/gpus/Radeon-R9-290X-vs-GeForce-GTX-7... at 1080p

But the R9 290x excels in 1440p or higher (eg 2 x 1080p monitors)

So what monitor(s) do you want to use?

The R9 290X gains an extra few fps over the R9 290 but it comes with slightly higher temperatures and its fans are louder (spin faster). The R9 290 is quieter. The R9 290 is about the same as the GTX 780, which is also rather quieter compared to the R9 290X.

If you want pure performance, the Asus R9 290X is the best one out of the bunch. I would personally get the Asus R9 290 or Gigabyte GTX 780 because the R9 290X isn't much more powerful to warrant the price for it. Very small gains.

I'd say get the Gigabyte 290x if you're going with the 290x. The asus one is a reference cooler, which just sucks to put it blatantly.

The ASUS 290 DCUII is a good r9 290.

For the 780, the ASUS dCUII is good.

As for which one to buy, the 290 and 290x is stronger than the 780 in most cases, but if you plan on playing watch dogs or assassin's creed or any Ubisoft game for that matter, you should go with the 780.

If you worry about temps and what not, just go with the GTX 780. If you're gaming at 1080p all of them are good.

If you just want the strongest card out of the whole batch, the gigabyte 290x is probably the best.

The best bang for the buck would be the r9 290 in my opinion, because its stronger than the GTX 780 and cheaper.

With your PSU, I'd suggest either the r9 290 or the gtx 780, and the gtx 780 comes with watch dogs if you're into that.
