I've been having a few problems with my PC as of late. First I was getting a BSOD once in awhile (I will list the event log below). This was going on for a few months. I was stuck in a BSOD loop last week on Windows trying to load. It would hang on the loading screen then BSOD with a memory dump. Now it is taking 2min to load in to Windows. I am running Windows 7 on a AMD based system. I use a Samsung 840 240gig for my OS and a WD 500gig black drive for storage. When I play a game from the WD it will freeze or stop working or BSOD. This has been going on for a few days. S.M.A.R.T. is saying the WD is good. WD data lifeguard errors out on a quick scan though. I unhooked the WD hdd and I boot in 15s like I use to. I've tried everything I know how to do to fix this. Should I reformat the WD and see it that works?

Consider this one. It is WD's new series.

The code from WD data lifeguard in: Quick Test on drive did not complete! Status Code = 07 (Failed read test element), Failure Checkpoint =97 (Unknown Test) SMART self-test did not complete on drive!I tried to run HDTune. First I ran a a benchmark test, it couldn't even finish with out an error. Then I ran an error scan it picked up errors right off the bat. I didn't let it finish it had barely started and it was getting errors. I looked up the date lifeguard code. Looks like it's falling. I looked up the warranty it's ran out last year. Looks like a new HDD unless you guys have an idea.
Never use a questionable hard disk! Replace it as soon as you can if not immediately! Clone the old hard disk to the new disk. I suggest a larger size HDD.

If you have an internal WD HDD and their Data LifeGuard utility says it cannot pass a Quick Test (you didn't tell us failure details, but may not matter), you have a failing drive, even if the SMART status is OK.
You could contact WD with the detailed error code from Data LifeGuard and ask their advice. My suspicion is they will tell you to buy a replacement, as soon as you can, then clone to it from your failing unit before you lose it all. IF the HDD is still under warranty, WD probably will require the failure codes before authorizing a free replacement.
By the way, have you checked for any loose connections of the data and power cables to the HDD? If you're lucky, that may be the problem.

Some computers don't like external HDDs plugged in during startup. My desktop will hesitate sometimes if I have an external HDD connected even though the ext HDD is turned OFF (it has an ON/OFF switch built-in the case).
Regarding your game freezing; it is because the HDD is slow; maybe an older version. Check the HDD using HDTune.
