Need help deciding what mobo to buy
I'm going to go ahead and upgrade my CPU and need some help deciding on a mobo. I'm currently rocking an embarrassing MSI MS-7778 (Jasmine) and AMD A8-5500. Keep in mind I've upgraded my video card to a GTX 760 so my performance isn't all that bad but it's not great.

I've narrowed my CPU search down to an i5 4670K and am needing help with my mobo selection. If you can convince me that a motherboard will dramatically increase performance I'd be willing to spend over $100 for it but I'm looking in the range of $50-80 currently. Right now I'm looking at http://www.amazon.com/Gigabyte-Intel-USB3-0-Motherboard... as an option just because it's cheap and it's compatible with the CPU. I do not know a whole lot about CPU's and Mobos so if you can enlighten me on what I should be looking at I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

Also, as an extra question.. Will the mentioned mobo I linked fit my GTX 760? I know it's a rather large video card I'm not positive it will be same position as my previous one so if you could answer that also I'd appreciate it as well!

Yeah that's my plan, I'm just going to go with a hyper 212 evo since they're very highly rated and they're like 30 bucks. A lot of people like those Noctua DH14 or whatever but they're just so big and heavy, bending MOBOs scares me. I'll sacrifice a couple degrees for a flat mobo :p  GL Have fun!

Yeah, thanks. I always imagined overclocking it puts a lot of stress on the hardware and I'm not a huge fan of gambling with their life expectancy. Might try it out though at least a little bit just to see the differences. I'll probably upgrade my fan at some point down the road to help.

just an fyi if you go into the AI Suite, it has an auto setting for the overclocking, it won't go like HARDCORE even if you click the extreme setting. It's just a decent overclock without needing a crap ton of fine tuning. Mine auto set my i7 to 4.3 GHz and I've got the stock cooler and it rarely reaches 60 degrees. I've had it up to 100 doing stress testing but later found that was normal considering it's the original Intel thermal paste and cooler.

At least this way you can still OC without needing all the headache that goes with the high overclocks that some people think you need. I personally noticed a decent difference in bootup time and loading games with my overclock.

I absolutely love ASUS as well that is what brand my video card is. I'm not too concerned with overclocking I just want something to boost my ARMA 3 experience from 20-30 fps to 40+.

I'll go ahead and check out that mobo you suggested, thank you.

I'm not going to swear to it but your GFX card should fit on that motherboard without a hitch. The only thing I'm not sure about is the ability to OC with that board. "Older" H and B series motherboards did not natively support overclocking. You might need a BIOS update, which sometimes can be a hassle finding a version that agrees fully with your system.

Personally I'm an ASUS enthusiast. I would suggest ASUS B85M-D PLUS Micro ATX Motherboard. Sorry for no link, I'm tired. That board I KNOW will allow your to make full use of that unlocked i5 and I know it will fit your ginormous GFX card.

ASUS provides a lot of tools with thier motherboards that make life a lot easier with overclocking and managing your fans. Thier bios updates are easily managed with thier provided software and they stand behind thier products. I've never had a single issue with thier support team. Until all that changes, ASUS has all my business.
