I'm running a GTX 295 from 2009, and I'm considering an upgrade.
What I was wondering is whether upgrading from a high-end card like the GTX 295 to a budget card like the GTX 750 Ti would actually give me increased performance, since the 295 has a lot more transistors, higher memory bandwidth etc.
There are no comparisons between cards this old and new ones, so I haven't really been able to tell :-)

The 750ti will provide better frame-rates in newer games and bechmark results are always better in 750 ti on newer games..See the solution http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-2036509/gtx-295....
Thanks for the link!

Hmm GTX 750Ti is a nice card but wont do much better perfomance wise then your 295, but if you are not on a tight budget the GTX 760 will net you an actual upgrade you can feel imo.Yeah, I'm also considering waiting for the 860 to land, since I'm not so much in a hurry :-) but I don't think the budget 800 cards will be Maxwell chips, unfortunately.

The gtx 750Ti would play games on medium with acceptable frame rates (30fps+). If you have a decent power supply, a relatively similar priced but better gpu would be the r9 270, if you're open to AMD options.I'm kind of a nVIDIA fanboy since I do some CUDA development at work, but I'll definitely look into my options there as well.

Seems like the gtx 750ti has about 3 times better Passmark G3D Mark. It's a good reference of how much more powerful the card is compared to the old one.
