Hey Toms Hardware,
First Specs:
-XFX R9 280x Black Edition
-i7 4770k
-8GB Gskill Ripjaws
-EVGA 750W PSU
-500GB Momuntus XT
Problem:
-I was in touch with XFX about a stuttering issue I had with the card, and the guy told me to update the BIOS on the card. Which I did.
Now, everytime I try to launch ANY game, it crashes the whole system.
For example, BF4: I can sit in the loading level screen, but as soon as it gets to the actual game, the whole system crashes. I get a black screen, a "No DVI Signal" prompt on my monitor, and the sound is looped thru my speakers.
I just used DDU and reinstalled my drivers and the same thing happens.
I already updated my support ticket to XFX but was wondering if you guy could help quicker as they take upwards of 72hrs to respond.
All drivers are up to date, all BIOS on mobo and GPU are up to date as well.
Thanks.
EDIT:
This is at Stock clocks for GPU and CPU.
System works fine until launching a game. For example, I am on it right now with no issues, (I.e., going online, etc.)
for me it seems the issue is when the card goes from is idle clocks to full clocks, it messes up.
Thanks
-Nick

Just talked to XFX Support on the phone (EXCELLENT Service btw) and he said that the gentleman helping me in the support ticket gave me the wrong BIOS to install. He said to load up the right one (provided the link) and to give it another try. Just did, we will see how it goes. Not mad at the guy for giving me the wrong BIOS, accidents happen, and the service/support was so good, I would strongly suggest XFX to everyone. We will see how this goes!Good luck!

Unfortunately this sounds like a hardware issue... Did you just purchase this system or the GPU? I had an issue like this with my old amd 7850. I could fix it "temporarily" by opening up my case and Re-seating my GPU and RAM. If you haven't tried so I recommend the following.
Open up your case and remove the GPU and RAM sticks. Find a "clean" eraser on the end of a pencil or an eraser block. Take the eraser and gently rub it on the gold end of the chip to clean it. If you have compressed air (Or just blow hard enough) try to clean the PCI slots and ram slots. And lastly, put them both in and make sure they snap into place correctly.
Try this and see if it gets you anywhere.

Anthony,
The only sound I hear out of the speakers is a buzzing sound, the BF4 (in this case) music gets cut off and loops super fast, making it sound like "BZZZZZZZZ" My keyboard, mouse, motherboard lights all stay on when it crashes. The Monitor shows, "NO DVI INPUT" then goes from the BLUE/ON light, to the ORANGE/ On but no input light.
Thanks.

Damn. Well I have a list of things to try. If you search google for 2 days straight like I did, you will probably keep running into threads where this issue wasn't solved, since most people can't find the root of the problem.
There is one thing I need to know before you try any of this. This will determine if it a hardware or software issue. When your system crashes, can you hear Teamspeak3 sounds/Game Sounds/Windows Sounds? Do your keyboard lights stay on? Does the entire system shut off? Does the monitor turn black or does the light turn red/yellow/off?

I just recovered from the same issue as you, except I was also getting screen tearing as well. DDU did no help for me as well. There are many things you can try, but first try what fixed it for me, it was actually very simple. Right click your desktop and set the Windows scheme to Windows Basic instead of AERO. AERO currently has problems and there will be a hotfix released. If that doesn't work, reply back to me because I have a lot of other things to try besides DDU.
