Hi all. I'm currently on a stock hand-me-down Dell Inspiron 650. and looking to do some minor QoL upgrades to it.
Current Specs:
CPU: Intel Celeron 450 single core 2.2Ghz
GPU: Onboard intel g43/45 chipset.
PSU: 300w
RAM: 4GB DDR3
This thing is a dinosaur, anyway.
I'm looking at upgrading to a dedicated GPU with an HDMI output (a cheap one ~$30) and a dual core processor (again, cheap)
I found a Geforce 8400 with 1gb of vram ( http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0049MPQA4/ref=gno_car... ) for 30$
and an Intel Pentium D 925 3 Ghz Dual Core ( http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000MVPE62/ref=gno_car... ) for 15$
Please keep in mind that I'm trying to spend as little as possible and the only games I'm trying to play are League of Legends and WoW. Would these work or are there better options at a similar price?

I can't see that link at work, but if it's listed with Dell, will work. You may need a better cooler if the CPU does not come with one, the Pentium D gets hot.
If you only have onboard video, the 8400 would be an upgrade, but check for a 7750 maybe in the same price range on the used market. Only warning is to make sure you see the card running a game or benchmark for a bit first. Something in the 7750 class you can move to a newer system and would see an improvement with a better CPU. You will be running demanding games on low settings with that, but you can at least play the games you want now at High instead of Medium or Low or at Medium with smoother play.
Although Pentium D may limit you a bit on High settings.

At the moment, the comp runs League at about 20 fps on the lowest settings, so any increase in performance is welcome.
http://www.pc-specs.com/mobo/Dell/Dell_018D1Y/2492 there is a link to the mobo, and the site lists the Pentium D as compatible, I'm personally not too sure what to look for.
Also, I'm fine with the CPU being a dead end. Like I said, I'm just looking for a cheap upgrade until i can scrape together enough money to buy a new rig.

The video card wold work, check the specific model you have to see if the motherboard supports a Pentium D CPU. Those use a lot of power and you have to make sure the socket wattage will match the CPU. There may be motherboard differences in the models so you need to check yours. Will probably need a BIOS update in any case.
You won't really be happy with the performance of the 8400 card unless you are OK with playing the games on low settings.
I'd look for a used card instead in the range of an nVidia GT630, AMD 7750, both of those will be close to $30.
That CPU is also a dead end, and may not run properly since it will use double the power your current CPU uses. You should look for a newer LGA775 socket CPU that your system will work with, although they will be more expensive.
A Pentium D and an 8400 will run WOW but not well unless you are running the base game without the expansions with up the video requirements.
