GPU OC and VLC
I've been experiencing some issues playing video files with VLC and WMP in windows 8.1. VLC will keep playing the audio while displaying a still image and WMP is unstable as well.

My question is can a GPU overclock cause this instability? I have a GTX 670 and it runs completely fine in games and with furmark or other benching tools.

Thanks in advance.

This isn't a solution but check if it works:

Go into VLC settings and go to the video tab
Uncheck "Accelerated video output" and "Use hardware YUV->RGB conversions"
and set output to "Windows GDI video output"
Go to the Input and Codecs tab and make sure "Use GPU accelerated decoding"
is unchecked

That will basically treat you GPU as non-accel. That should show if its a GPU 2d acceleration problem
If that works try changing each setting back one at a time

I had been using the latest beta drivers but I rolled back to the 337.88 release. I ruled out the overclock because I reset it to default clock speeds and it still crashed.

A few questions. What video output driver are you using for VLC?
I assume accelerated video output is turned on

Does you GPU go to high clock mode when you play a video?
