Intel SSD Installation
Hi...I want to buy an SSD for my gaming PC....not too expensive....since last month I upgraded my GPU from GTS 450 to GTX 660.....

My rig

- Cooler Master HAF 922
- i5 - 2400 @ 3.1 Ghz
- EVGA GTX 660 SC ACX cooling
- Corsair 1333Mhz 4GB RAM
- 1TB Seagate 7200rpm HDD
- AOC 20" 1920 x 1080
- Logitech 5.1 Surround
- Logitech G400s gaming mouse
- Cooler Master Extreme power plus 600W PSU

So....i'm looking for a cheap but good SSD

My budget is not high 80-90$ MAXxxx....

I've been browsing for a week on newegg....and I have selected Intel 530 series 120 GB....

Can anybody else tell me about any other SSD in that RANGE....

Yes, HAF 922 have 2.5" brackets

Till know I had 3 partitions....after installing SSD I will have 4...so basically I will Install windows on SSD ( obviously) and install 3-4 latest titles like Crysis 3, Battlefield 4, ...etc

I will format my HDD partition having the windows....and use it only for installation of other Games....

Secondly...i've checked Samsung 840 evo 120GB SSD...it's slower than Intel 530 Series SSDSC2BW120A4K5 2.5" 120GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)....i've checked many reviews....and you also know that Intel SSD's are best....Samsung is OK

And I also wanted to know which Windows is best for gaming Win 8.1 x64 or Windows 7 ultimate x64....

Thanks, for quick reply ( viewtyjoe) ....

I run 8.1 x64 on my system, but Win 7 should be fine for a year-ish longer before it gets end-of-lifed. If you're more familiar with Vista/7, I would suggest sticking to it unless you want to deal with the minor hassles the new interfaces in 8/8.1. Win 9 should be coming out in the next year, so that will be coming up, too.

Samsung 840 Evo SSD's are great performers however if you want to stay affordable, I'd recommend Crucial. The MX100 has seen improvements over the M500 (both Crucial SSD's), hence I'd go with the MX100. You can pick up a 128GB Crucial MX100 for $75 USD.

Storage: Crucial MX100 128GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($74.99 @ Amazon)
Total: $74.99

The MX100 I'm recommending is similar to Samsung's 840 Evo, except that it's write speeds are not as fast as that of the 840 Evo. If you want a 120GB Samsung 840 Evo, you can pick one of those up too whilst in your budget:

Storage: Samsung 840 EVO 120GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($80.99 @ NCIX US)
Total: $80.99

It's completely your call which one you go for; they're almost similar but Samsung 840 Evo's are known and praised for their performance. The MX100 doesn't fall too behind whilst also being more affordable. Whichever you purchase, the MX100 or the 840 Evo, it'll sure outperform the Intel 530 you initially planned on purchasing by miles.

All the best. :)

I would recommend the Samsung 840 just because Samsung is considered the best for reliability, but also question what you intend to do with just a 120 GB SSD.

As far as installation goes, if your case has 2.5" slots or adapters, it's just like installing any other internal SATA drive.
