Hi,
Guys, so I was hoping to go for an EVGA 770 4GB before a friend of mine offered me a GTX 780 3GB for my 760 4GB [I have to pay him the price difference in bucks
). He says, he isn't utilizing the 780 much at the resolution he games at (1440*900) and would do with some cash.
So guys which of the cards should I go for? Do I buy a new 770 or get this 780 in a swap? I understand that the 780 has 1GB less RAM but has a 50% wider bus (at 384-bit). Also the 780 is the reference version with a blower. However, I am mostly concerned about the VRAM, because games are starting to utilize more than 3GB VRAM (thanks to unified memory of new gen consoles, which leaves around 3-4 gigs for the graphics processor) and I don't want to sit, say 6 months form now (with GTA V, Witcher 3 etc out), and not being able to harness the power of the card due to VRAM bottlenecking.
Thanks

Watch Dogs wasn't technically optimised for PC. Also its known that certain pc effects was hidden which didn't affect much performance turning them on. Watchdogs is an exception. Many are still waiting for that patch to fix optimisation for both Nvidia and AMD. 3Gb is still enough for 1080p.
I think its more of a marketing ploy in limiting graphic settings or performance simply by reading how much vram you have.

Get the GTX 780. Regardless of VRAM, the GTX 780 will still be the faster card.Correct. But will the 780's 3GB hold when the textures become demanding? GTA V and Witcher 3 are two of the games I am betting my money on to have uncompressed high quality textures. The whole Watch Dogs fiasco is making me go down this lane. If only only every developer used Wolfenstein's texture compression method, we wouldn't have been having this debate. The 780 is the superior card without a single doubt but its the VRAM that makes me skeptical.
