If you're playing on all 3 monitors at once, you'll have to compensate on the quality to play the game better most likely. The r9 290x does scale better into higher resolutions despite the gtx 780Ti being stronger because of the extra gb of vRAM. At 5760x1080, they're both almost equal in performance.

I suggest using another source for scores other than gpuboss. It usually is nVidia favored (look at the gtx 780 vs r9 290x). The results of the r9 290x vs the gtx 780Ti are correct as the gtx 780 is stronger. But I still suggest staying away from that site.

As for the usage, if you're gaming with 1 monitor, you could just go with a r9 290. But if you have the budget for the gtx 780Ti vs vaporX r9 290x. Then I'd go with the gtx 780Ti. They're both overkill for 1 monitor anyways. If you upgrade to 1440p, it'll still be a tad bit overkill.

@1080p resolution, either one would work fine.

Yeah I know the site is nVidia favored, but I am planning on going triple monitor in 1080p is that overkill?

780Ti should be better.
