Standard VGA/HD7970 driver issues. Help!
Hey guys,

Having issues with my displays. I know it is NOT the monitors themselves as I had the same issue with other monitors using different connections.

Sometimes, about 50/50, when I boot into windows, windows seems to use Standard VGA Adapter instead of my HD7970. I get this warning pop up.

Warning: The Catalyst Control Center is not supported by the driver version of you enabled graphics adapter. Please update your ATI graphics driver, or enable your ATI adapter using the displays manager.

When this occurs, windows basic is used instead of aero. I use a dual screen set up and when functioning properly I use extended displays. When I have this issue, the second screen is simply blacked out or duplicated.

I am typing this right now using the standard VGA adpater. In disk manager I have the Standard VGA Graphics adapter displayed and the Intel HD4000 also.

I have found a fix for the issue is to either turn off all power to pc at the switch or unplug the GPU PCIe power cables then plug them back in.

I today uninstalled AMD drivers and software and reinstalled the latest Beta CCC software which then installed the AMD display drivers for my HD 7970.

Also, unrelated but it's bugging me, I have three different audio drivers, realtek, intel and AMD. Should I uninstall all but one?

Anyone have any ideas? Any help would be much appreciated!

Cheers

TK.

The audio is fine. One is probably for onboard HDMI sound, one is for HD sound and one is for HDMI sound for the GPU card.

What is the model of your motherboard? Try going into BIOS and setting the primary display adapter to PEG or PCIe. You can also try right clicking on the onboard adapter in device manager and selecting disable.
