Hi everyone,
This has been an issue on my computer for quite some time now, I'd say a few months, maybe to half a year I can remember this beginning to happen.
I am unsure whether it's a hardware or software issue and have no idea where to begin.
At times - whether I'm idle or playing a game - my computer will suddenly halt without warning and completely freeze. The thing is, when this happens, all sound stops which is odd. Typically, there'd be a buzzing sound or a constant feedback loop, or maybe a beep from the tower, but absolutely nothing happens, and I'm forced to do a hard restart.
I can recall, however, there was only one time this happened: after a freeze occurring just as I described, I received a POST screen about how a freeze occurred due to something being overclocked on my system: RAM or CPU. The thing is, I have never overclocked neither of those, or anything, on my computer.
This happened only once, but it makes me question whether this issue could be a problem with my RAM - I doubt it'd be my CPU, given that it was brand new and I put it in my machine about eight months ago and it works fine.
My temperatures are all fine too.
When the freeze occurs, there is no artifacting, everything just freezes on a single frame and all sound stops.
Any ideas on where to begin? Thank you!

If you have the budget, the new MB will be the best choice. Like the GIGABYTE GA-970A-UD3P, ASRock Fatal1ty 990FX Killer, the best one ASUS Crosshair V Formula-Z AM3+ and the new good airflow case may not help too much.
Or you can use the AIDA64 extreme ( trial version) to see the VRM temp before you make the decision. http://www.aida64.com/product/aida64-extreme/benchmarks

There are a lot of similar problem post on this forum and other too. Like

Also you use the gtx660ti only requires a 450W PSU (minimum) with 24A on the +12V rail, and you don't oc. So the problem is most likely from the MB, when the PC is new and it works fine. But the problem will show up after for while, because it try to work very hard to power the fx8 cpu.

That is all about the MB GA-970A-D3 + the FX8350, because the MB has only 4+1 power phase (VRMs), when you put the fx8 series cpu in you will get problem most of time. The problem is the VRMs section overheat. Now you can buy 2 x of heatsinks, because there are 20 ( small square ) in your MB http://www.gigabyte.com/fileupload/product/2/3908/4466_... those are in the upper side of the cpu socket. Install them to cool down the MOSFET. And check the youtube to see how to.
