Having performance issues after 3rd monitor setup with mismatched GPU's
Hi all.
I recently purchased a third monitor. In order to run it I had to install an older graphics card. Now my pc's performance is slow and I find it unusable. As if it is running all graphics programs from the 7600 gt versus the GTX 285 which did everything I needed it too.
Here are my specs.
Hardware:
Evga 3x classified X58
i7 -920 bloomfield
12 gbs ram
Gigabyte GTX 285, 2gb
Asus 7600 GT
Software:
Win 7 Home
Nvidia drivers 307.83

When I update the drivers to the newest version Geforce 340.52 my third monitor ( the one that is running off the 7600GT) turns off and will not come back on, but my performance improves. Device manager will also give me an error saying there is a problem with that graphics device and shut it down.
Is there any way to fix this besides buying something (which really isn't an option for me right now)?
Why is there a conflict and what have I done wrong?
If more info is needed please ask. Just trying to find a solution and appreciate anyone taking time to help. Thanks. I have googled around but do not exactly know what search terms I should be entering to find a solution to my problem.

Try changing the graphic card slots with each other and see if it solves it. And what kind of performance lag are you facing? Graphical like in games or as in processing because when you use 2 cards the motherboard split the processing speed from x16 (one slot) to x8, x8 (two slots) so that both can process at the same time at the same speed. The performance lag can also be caused by the massive difference of the card's chips and technology and also 7600GT got only 256mb memory so that is one of the reason too.

Make sure you set your main monitor as one that is connected to the better graphics card to avoid performance issues.
