NZXT Grid to change fan RPM?
Do I need a NZXT Grid to change fan RPM or are there other alternatives? I'm planning to get the NZXT H440. My fan configuration is going to be 3x120mm front intake, 140mm back exhaust, and 2x140mm as top exhaust. Since I have different fan sizes I want to be able to control the RPM and not have them running at max voltage.

Wont the above risk drawing a lot of power from the motherboard? Not criticising, genuinely curious as I considered a similar option with my htpc but decided the rinky dink mobo would be happier if the fans ran straight from the PSU!

well dont put like 5 fans on one like 2 fans that should be okay if his mobo has enough plug them into seperate ones.

yeah i didnt know what you need to do is get a 4 pin(pwm) fan splitter connect it to fan ports on your mobo and your done. you can control all the fans you need.

The grid doesn't control fan speeds it just allows you to plug up to 10 fans into your PC. I'm using a grid in my htpc combined with a PCI slot fan controller like this http://www.frozencpu.com/products/10585/cpa-323/Lian_Li...

With the controller connected to the grid I can control the speed of all the fans with just the single dial. You can also get a Zalman fanmate 2 and connect that to the grid but you would gave to open your case every time you wanted to adjust speeds.

If you have pwm fans and enough motherboard fan headers just use those. My issue was that I had 4 fans and only 2 headers in my H81 mobo

well you need to make sure the fans are pwm fans to control them. get a fan controller(that can handle 6 fans). then you can do it or buy a expensive mobo with 6 fan connectors.(i think most have 4 or 5.)

Fan controller such as these? I can't put a fan controller in my case since it doesn't have any optical drive slots.
