It really depends on lots of things. Many of the difference in routers are features are related to thing like NAS server abilities and fancy firewall rules etc etc. You need to decide which if any of these is worth anything.
If all you plan to do is surf the internet...ie you can not running backups or video stream inside the house between machine then your internet will likely be the limiting factor. It does not do a lot of good to chase the fastest routes when you will never use the extra speed. In addition you may have to spend money to upgrade the nic cards to support the higher speeds also.
Unless you really need some feature on a better router I would stay with a mid prices dual band router. The ones that say n600 would likely be good enough. This is 300m on 2.4 and 300m on 5g. To go to the next level of 450 on these you would also need a nic card that has 3 antenna and support this 450m speed. It is not real common so it really doesn't pay to go over the ones called n600 unless you plan to upgrade your nic cards and have a application to use between your machines that can use a lot of bandwidth.
I would bet you could get a pretty nice device for $75. Stay with the larger name brands but you will have to read the reviews and decide. Every single brand has people that love it and people that hate it. This is because the houses they are running in are more different than the routers.
