I don't know how different they are or which one is more worth the buy.
They are both the same price.

Buying an r9 290 is sketchy currently...
if you read the reviews some models run much better/worse than others.
Personally, I'd get the Sapphire Tri-X or Vapor-X, as they are best reviewed (i have one, can vouch for it) and have the best ratings on newegg, but are the most expensive.
I'd say go for the Gigabyte, Powercolor PCS+ (only good Powercolor model, my friend has it), or maybe IceQ, the 5 starred model. but they aren't quite as reputable.
Make sure you get the right 290 model of whatever you pick though, as you can see on newegg there are several models of each card and others run better and cooler than others...
Also you see the 3 star cards... it seems asince like June many have been DOA cards... so that's why I'd recommend the sapphire, MSI, or even the IceQ (sometimes small brands like IceQ put more work into their cards instead of shipping out bad cards) might be the best bet.
If you get a working card, you will be VERY satisfied. Good luck and tell us how it runs!
P.S. it is WAY better to get a 770 or 780, money wise and performance wise...
Simply :
Best: Sapphire, MSI
Great: Gigabyte, powercolor PCS+, XFX, maybe the IceQ newer model
not recommended: Asus (the directcull isn't good on 290), diamond, bad powercolors, reference models obvi.
P.S if you get the IceQ, OC it a little bit. Don't judge the cards by their stock OC, you can always do that yourself. I keep my Tri-X stock at 1000/1300, so you could bump it up a little to that if it is clocked lower stock.

Here's yet another r9-290 that is currently on sale on Newegg.http://pcpartpicker.com/part/powercolor-video-card-axr9...
The r9 290 really dropped down quickly. I've noticed over the last few weeks some models have been around $350, or even lower. The lowest I've seen yet was an XFX for 329.99. That's nuts, because most GTX770's are around that price, lol.
Amd seems to be dropping prices to get a few sales before the new Nvidia cards release in a few days.
That's what I figured, but why the r9 290 only though? Seems that they should drop the 290x as well, since it is only on par with a $500 GTX 780. If the GTX 880 comes out faster again, they won't have much choice but I'm sure that's all part of the marketing plan. Good for consumers either way, lol.

I think the Gigabyte is a better buy, purely because they are widely known for all of their PC components. All of which seem to be reliable. The boost clock is slightly lower by 20MHz but won't make much of a difference. It has a tri-cooler which will cool down the GPU more efficiently so you can overclock it. If you could, I would purchase the GTX 770 - same benchmarks and I think the Nvidia drivers are better than AMD. Also, tend to have less heating issues.
Those 2 cards are far from the same my friend
http://www.anandtech.com/bench/product/1068?vs=1037 AMD has also came a long ways with their drivers, and there are no major issues right now for single card configurations. Even crossfire has been really good since they introduced their frame pacing fixes. What heating issues are you speaking of? You mean the ones from the reference coolers that were used in the reviews. All models have aftermarket/custom coolers now that do awesome jobs.
