A couple days ago, a storm knocked out power in the house for a split second and afterwards if I try to play a game like Warframe or Battlefield 4, my computer resets and kind of hangs for a bit, changing the graphics display back to the onboard from my Nvidia 550 ti while giving me a BCCode of 116. The card is also unrecognized by the gadget I have to monitor the temperature of the thing. I've cleaned the fans for my processor and GPU and replaced the thermal paste on my processor fan because it was pretty dry and it's still happening. Each time I hover my hand over the back of the GPU's heat sink and it doesn't feel excessively hot, so it shouldn't be overheating. Each time, I was watching the temperatures and neither my CPU or GPU got above 70 degrees Celsius, so I'm back to square one, wondering what the issue might be.

After trying the second PCI-E slot I had thinking the first one was shorting, the same things happened. A friend recommended me to MSI Afterburner to downclock my GPU (which I did from 900 mhz to 885 mhz), I also downgraded my Nvidia drivers from 340.52 to 337.88, and the next crash that happened, my GPU fan was going absolutely crazy. I think it was actually spinning at full speed, and it's never done that before.

Yeah I did have the whole thing running when the surge happened. The whole computer's about 4 years old at the moment so I don't think so. Also, to get my graphics card to register again, I had to give it a push upwards so maybe it's the PCI-E slot instead of the power supply? Or is it both?
I couldn't say for sure because the damage could have been spread to anywhere. Try removing and then reinstall all your components like GPU, RAM, cooler, CPU etc.

Looks like it may have damaged your power supply. Did you have your pc plugged in and the plug switch on when the storm / power surge happened?Have you still got warranty on your psu?
