R9 280X or Bottlenecking?
Hey!

I bought a "HIS R9 280x IceQX^2 3GB" GPU card to improve my PC even though the other components are a bit old however I assumed it would still make a good difference. I think it has made a difference for most games but some still have low FPS on some games even though my monitor only produces a 1280x1024 Resolution. One specific game is Assassins Creed 3 (III) where I get FPS usually staying at 20-30 but sometimes going higher. Other benchmarks have been at higher resolutions and produces better FPS. My PC Specs are as follows:

CPU: AMD Athlon II X3 425 (Overclocked to 3.3 GHz)
GPU: HIS R9 280x IceQX^2 3GB
RAM: 8GB (2 x 4GB) Komputerbay 1600MHz
Storage: Samsung HD 103SJ 1TB
Mobo: GA-MA785GT-UD3H

I know I really should improve the other aspects of my rig but just want to make sure I haven't got a poor GPU.

Thanks in advance for any replies!

If you mean the 8320, then yeah that combination is actually not half bad. Decent mobo, and that cpu should be able to OC to 4.0-4.2 GHz with that board. And there shouldn't be any bottlenecks between the 280x

Good to go~!

Yeah it was an old rig that had not been switched on in a year since earlier this summer due to me finally deciding to fix it lol. Would you say that the "AMD FX-8230 3.5/4.0 GHz Processor" would be a good, long lasting replacement alongside a "Asus M5A97 R2.0 AMD 970/ SB950 Mobo"?

Thanks for the help!

Definitely the processor's fault here. Very dated. Look into upgrading that and your mobo

The r9-280x should have no issue with AC3 at 1080p, let alone 1280x1024
