Something like this would work well:
PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant
CPU: Intel Core i5-4460 3.2GHz Quad-Core Processor ($179.99 @ Newegg)
Motherboard: ASRock H97 PRO4 ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($88.98 @ SuperBiiz)
Memory: Crucial Ballistix Sport 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($79.98 @ OutletPC)
Storage: Crucial M500 120GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($69.99 @ SuperBiiz)
Storage: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($56.98 @ OutletPC)
Video Card: Gigabyte Radeon R9 280 3GB WINDFORCE Video Card ($199.99 @ Newegg)
Case: Corsair 300R ATX Mid Tower Case ($59.99 @ Newegg)
Power Supply: SeaSonic 620W 80+ Bronze Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply ($74.99 @ Amazon)
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 8.1 - 64-bit (OEM) (64-bit) ($90.26 @ OutletPC)
Total: $901.15

The SSD will help with boot up of the OS and applications. Its pretty sweet but is optional so if you wanted more graphical power you could drop that and get a R9 280x. If you wanted a GTX 760 it would be about $20-30 more and a GTX 770 would be about $100 more. I believe the r9 280 performs on par with the gtx 760 so it is up to you. If you prefer Nvidia features then go for the gtx 760, it is a great card and what I have in my system right now with no complaints (but the R9 cards were more expensive at the time I bought it so that was a major factor).
