New Nvidia GPU's, a good upgrade from AMD R290?
I own a R290 atm. I want to upgrade it to a Nvidia card.
Are there any performance data about the new Nvidia GPU's (GTX 900) that are about to be released?
Are they fast enough to be a logical upgrade from AMD R290?

You might also want to consider that almost every time new cards are released there is almost always some kind of driver issues. It might take six months to debug most of the recurrent issues. I'd wait and see. In the meantime, have you even tried the 14.7 drivers? Use the Display driver uninstaller to get rid of the old drivers and crap hanging out from previous installations and try the 14.7 CCC beta.

I was skeptical at first but all my issues on my gaming rig that has a 280 disappeared. The ddu has worked pretty much wonders with resolving AMD driver issues for a bunch of folks who've come here for help that had tried basically everything else.

Sell your 290 and use the money to get a GTX 970. You'll probably also have some money left over!

personally, I've not had any issues with AMD drivers with either 7950 crossfire or R9-290.

I'm also interested in upgrading, but even though I love new tech, the R9-290 is more than sufficient, even for 3x1050 monitors. Also, I'm sure the new Nvidia cards will be ridiculously priced here in Oz.

I should hold off and reconsider when they move to 20nm or make a significant jump in performance, as long as games are demanding to match.

New games these days, seem to be dumbed down to console quality, so don't really push PC hardware.

If you really wanna upgrade then do it, the 970 and 980 are gonna be outstanding it seems, but imo it's best to skip a generation if you already have a high end card. Buying a new one every year isn't the most ideal strategy for your wallet (although sometimes I find myself tempted to do it anyway).

This is maybe half-guesswork but I think next year's Nvidia Maxwell cards on 20nm chips will REALLY be the bomb, since the Maxwell architecture will be able to utilize its potential even more on a smaller die size. So perhaps that would be a more interesting moment to upgrade.
No idea what AMD will do, but I don't expect they will be able to catch up, at least their latest card - the R9 285, which wasn't anything special - gives me the impression they're kinda in panic mode.

BSOD with video hardware acceleration pretty annoying. There is no info about if it is solved , or will be solved with the new drivers .
Tough i don't know how good nvidia drivers with the new cards.

Not anymore, most have been resolved with recent releases. They do have more than nvidia by a margin, but its nothing that should sway purchases.

Maybe when they are released they will outperform some of the AMD GPUs.

Performance wise, it wouldnt make sense. But AMD drivers cause BSOD while playing videos. And so far, i haven't been able to solve it. It seems there are quite some users complaining from the same bug.
Nvidia drivers are more mature(i hope so). And if the performance upgrade is significant , i would jump on that side.
