Sound Card for on board one that failed
I have an old Gateway computer. Model GT5436E. We use it for basic internet and some 'other' stuff. The on board sound seems to gone sound south. We get a high pitched hum. Speakers are ok. They are just basic plug in speakers that have worked fine. Not looking for great quality, just no humming. I'm thinking on board went bad. But is there something else could check before buying a add on sound card? I'm looking for just a useable quality sound. The on board was fine for this computer use until that humming . Now it's distracting

I'll check it out. And certainly cheap enough. Thanks.

I bought the Asus Xonar 5.1 for around $30 and it's pretty nice. Has its own stereo mix and cool features in the control panel
