Hey guys! I recently bought AC4 for my PC and noticed that it occasionally glitches out with long green rays. The green rays, from what I have seen, only appear when there are plants or green items in the game, which millions of rays protrude from. They move quickly and take up the whole screen in certain spots of the game, but not at all times. The problem is not a screen tearing problem, as my FPS is capped at 60 from another program and I have tried to solve it that way, because I assumed it was a screen tearing issue. It looks like nothing I've ever seen. However, I discovered what the problem was, when on any setting above low for 'environment quality', the game freaks out with these green rays near any random vegetation or plants/trees. If anyone knows how I could fix this issue so that I could play the game to its "maximum beauty" without any annoying and obstructive rays. Thanks!
Also, my FPS is anywhere from 30-60 and I am %100 certain that it is caused by the environment quality.

Haha OK man, Kill all the templars! haha I enjoy this game since AC Revelation.
AC3 is a garbage in PC gaming.
Remember:
~nothing is true, everything is permitted.~
Haha, I will for sure, one at a time, because that's their century old attack method
been here since AC2 and this is true, but also not true because nothing is...

It`s unfortunate that you are experiencing the game with artifacts.I am impressed with this game so far.
Try to run it with stock GPU clocks and see if you can remove the artifacts.
I already have. I reset the GPU to stock settings as well as the CPU and still the problem lingered. It is unfortunate, but its not game-breaking and its not the end of the world so its not a big deal
I was just wondering if anyone had encountered and solved the same problem, but I don't think that it can be fixed. Thanks for all of your help!!!

You mentioned that you capped your FPS at 60, what software did you used? As for mine I`m using the D3D and MSI Afterburner.1. For the D3D (download in the internet) this is used to enable the video tessellation and v-sync.
2. For the MSI Afterburner - this is used to cap the FPS to 60 and for monitoring.
I`m using Sapphire HD 7970 OC and I also overclocked it to Core clock=1000 Mhz and Memory clock = 1460 Mhz.
My CPU is the A10 7850k Kaveri Oc`ed to 4.3Ghz.
You can find guides in youtube on how to use the D3D and MSI Afterburner.
For the in-game settings, I set mine to high because I`m only using the crack (not original) edition and there is no very high settings.
Resolution: 1920x1080
Environment Quality: High
Texture Quality: High
Anti-aliasing: SMAA
Shadow quality: I`m not so sure but you can play with this settings.
Motion blur: on
Ambient occlusion: low i think or the SBAO
God rays: low
Volumetric Fog: on
V-sync: on
I have tried to disable v-sync but this causes stuttering which I don`t like. I have a smooth gameplay man, I hope this will help you a lot. Continue to sail in the west indies. Aye Captain!!
Hey, sorry I didn't notice that you responded until now. I now understand that it is an artifact as mentioned above and know that my GPU/CPU overclocks are not the problem. I ran them both at stock and the problem persisted. Also, these artifacts don't show in any other games(except for Skyrim, occasionally), and I know that my OC's are stable. All that aside, Ive basically narrowed it down to the game being poorly optimized for my GPU or my drivers being out of date. However, I am 99%sure that my drivers are fine as I don't see artifcats in any other games. So, my guess is that its just another gripe I'll have to deal with just like Ubisoft's other poor PC ports. Its a shame, Ubisoft makes my favorite series (AC) and other blockbusters that I enjoy immensely, but they never seem to get things right on PC. I guess I'll just have to deal with it, because I'd rather have the occasional artifact dominated scene and an awesome looking environment than textures from counter strike in beautiful AC. If anyone finds a solution, I'd be glad to hear it, but for now thanks for the help and I will surely continue to sail in the west indies!!!

Oh, haha I also played AC4 yesterday and I just completed the quest in your screen shot, to assassinate R**** i forgot.
Going back to your problem, firstly what GPU and CPU are your using? Did you OC? You also mentioned you capped your FPS to 60 but having a frame drop of 30~60 (this numbers is not good I think).
I also capped my FPS to 60 but managed to get 50~60 FPS with V-sync on also using 3rd party software. Though I cannot give my exact settings today because I`m at work but I set it to maximum and SMAA.
My gpu is the R9 280 and my CPU is the FX 8320. I OC'd both the CPU and GPU. GPU=+95MHz CPU=+.5GHz. As I said before, I think the problem is fixed, but am not totally sure. Thanks for the help!! Also, I should probably mention that with the setting in the picture above, my FPS is around 24 FPS in real-world situations such as free-running, fighting, and naval warfare(sometimes higher for naval). This FPS of 24 with the settings above was the same whether I had the GPU at stock speeds, or at an OC of +95 on the core clock, so if you could explain why I am not seeing a boost in performance, that would be awesome!(fingers crossed that bottlenecking isnt a problem)

That is a stretched texture artifact is usually caused by 1 or 3 things. It can either be a game bug (possible but not super likely)
More likely it is a driver problem or failing graphics hardware.
What is your GPU, Windows and driver versions?
My GPU is the R9 280, Windows 8.1 and all drivers are up to date. I think that I may have fixed it however, through re-installing the game, but am not 100% sure as this occurs randomly. Anyways, I'll let you know if it happens again, thanks!!
