R9 290 Vs. GTX 970 !
Hi guys 2 maybe 3 months ago i bought the ASUS R9 290 DirectCU II OC from eBAY for 356$ but in my country this card cost almost 480$ ...

Now the question is do i sell the card as used for 350$ and order the new GTX 970 or not !

Buying the GTX 970 won't cost me any charge as i will sell the card with the same price i bought it with "R9".. reviews says the 970 is better but should i wait for more reviews or it's confirmed it's better ?

Thanks :)

With 970/980 I'll be looking at Asus and EVGA

I'm on the same situation. I have a Sapphire Tri-X R9 290 I love my card. It's quiet and runs cool but it's definetely power hungry and in some games it glitches. Few pixelations here and there, something I've never had happened before on NVIDIA cards.

I'd go the 970, less power - should run MUCH cooler, the 290s and 290Xs I've worked with have all been very warm, and Toms did a few BMs...I'll be going the 980 and changing out my 290X Matrix

Hi Tradesman,

Do you recommend specific vendor? ASUS failed me with the R9 290 and it's cooler :\ and i am hesitating to go with ASUS again :(  i need one with backplate even if it's not effecting the cooling

You will get some fps more and of course less energy consumption during GPU intensive tasks, but i don't think is a good idea.

Right now those benchmarks can't be believed (the ones coming from nVidia), wait until other webs do their owns.

If it happens to have significantly more performance, then sell your 290 and buy the 970.

Hi Brunostako,

Even If both equal in term of performance and FPS, getting both less power consumption and better thermal plus of course the new features such as directx 12, etc.. is a good way to go with !
