GTX970 SLI requirements
Im going to upgrade to a single 970 soon, but i would like to know if there is headroom for a 2-way SLI in the future...

CURRENT SPECS:
CPU: i5 4670K
MOBO: GA-Z87x UD3H
SSD:Corsair Force GS 240GB
PSU: Corsair RM650m
CASE FANS: Fractal silent series r2 140mm X3
CPU COOLER: Coolermaster 240 Evo

Even though the wattage seems sufficient under stock speeds i hear there might be an issue with the Amperage my PSU can handle?

If you game at 1080p, then you wouldn't need a second 970 at all.

Now i wouldn't but perhaps i would in 2 years.

that doesn't really work. you usually end up getting a new card which is more efficient, gtx670 vs gtx970 (from kepler to maxwell).

Assuming their TDP is 164watt we have a total of 413watt including the CPU... Why is not 650watt Gold efficiency not enough?

I'd allow for it - for 'future proofing'

Edit - PSU

That guru link showed

gtx970 - 164W (Geforce shows 145W)

gtx980 - 171W (Geforce shows 165W)

and for reference a R9 270x - 177W

I had two 170w cards running on a 620w PSU for a couple of years without it going pop and with 2x 6 pins for power the 970 should be rated to 225w max. I too have often wondered at how some review sites get to their conclusions.

pretty dangerous stuff imho, 274w per card at full load, not to mention you'll be adding stuff up and then oc'ing that k processor to hell.

what are you talking about? visit Nvidias webpage each GTX970 consumes 145watt at factory settings. As for the K i picked it up on a sale when it was even cheaper than the non-K variant, its not that i need to OC or anything. Same goes for the gpus, i game on a 1080p anyway so all i care about is future proofing, i don't think i ll ever need to OC gpu/gpus either.

well if you checked the link they have nominal "average" power consumption rates which puts the 970 at around 170w. better to be on the safe side than sorry.
