Gtx 980 hdmi 2.0 and pcie 2.0
hello,

I've just seen the new gtx 980 with hdmi 2.0 support for 4k resolutions with 60hz. At the moment I have a x58 msi motherboard with pcie 2.0, can I still get 4k 60hz with this or do I need to upgrade to a pcie 3.0 motherboard?

The video card will work with either PCIE 2.0 or PCIE 3.0 slots. The main question is if you want to game with it, or just run 4K for applications.

Of course, if you are not gaming at 4K you would be better off going with the GTX 970 to save some money but still get all of the new features.

Truthfully, it is difficult to say how well the combination of an X58 motherboard and a new GTX 980 would run video games at 4K. No one is normally going to try and do that (you may be the first if you do).
