Quick question here.
As stated in the subject, I just got a reference 770 not more than 3 months ago for around $350. Would it be worth getting a 970/980 now, and try to sell the 770 in the mean time?
If yes, which one (970/980) and why?
Some details might help: I have enjoyed the performance of the 770, and I primarily game at 1080p/60FPS (I only have a 60 Hz monitor). I see no reason to upgrade RIGHT now, but I feel that a 900 series card would be my last GPU purchase for a few years. Due to the efficient power draw, doubled VRAM, etc.
If not, why?
I'd love to know, as I'd like to make my decision early this coming week.
I look forward to your opinions. Thanks.

I would buy another 770 if you can and sli. The drivers are very good now for Sli, and for $300 or less you can get a reference 770 brand new. Here's a couple comparisons of what 770 sli does against the newer 970/980x1.

As you can see 770 sli still smokes the 980GTX, and definitely kills the 970GTX.

If the 770 is serving you very well, and max everything you are playing, don't waste your money and just to get a newer card. nothing is futureprove in tech. I'm sure there will be nwer cards coming out next year, that's how manufactures survive to get people rolling.
On the other hand, if you can manage to sell your 770 at a decent price(people have done that online), then you can goahead and get the 900s. this might depends on your luck.

Its as simple as you already stated...you are happy with your current setup...so no reason to upgrade anything. Wait until you are no longer happy with your current setup and then upgrade. By then you will be able to get a GPU far better than the 970 or 980, more than likely. So you end up saving money in the long run and getting better performance too.

I bet you thought a 770 was gonna be your "last upgrade" for a few years too. Don't ditch it now, you just got it, and it's still a great card for 1080p, you can max out pretty much all the games and the ones to come next year as well. Unless you got money to spend anyway, I'd personally wait for next year's cards, if they're gonna be manufactured on 20 or 18nm then that's gonna be an even bigger leap in performance and power consumption.Thats what I am doing. I got a EVGA GTX 780 Ti SC ACX in Dec 2013 thinking that it was going to be a GPU for the next five years...and it could be, but I really want to max games out and within five years will be going 4k. So, around 2016 I will probably pick up the smaller architecture and put the 780 Ti into a different build for my wife...or maybe for a friend build if I have one stop by for a few hours.
