3 cards is not worth doing. The scaling doesn't make it worth while. And look at the price of the mobo you need!

But 2 are. Just do 2 x 980's.


I'd also look at getting an i7 eg Watch Dogs.

I would definitely prefer the 980 combo. Better single gpu performance in instances where sli is unavailable, less power draw, 3 way sli can have issues scaling well, will be easier to cool and fit in a case, better pcie lanes for each card.

Its honestly too soon to tell, 970 tri SLI simply hasnt been benchmarked yet.
I would take the 980s, it scales better that way, and will produce less heat and draw less power.
