ok i had my heart set on getting 2 290's for 4k gaming. but someone introduced the 900 series to me.
I'm not fussed about gaming in 4k i can save up for that later in time (when i have the right equipment and the prices drop down more
)
Is the 980 really that much of a killer compared to the 290x? for that extra £100
I can afford any one of these card with a budget of £450 but what would you get?
1 gtx 980 and like get another one in around 5-6 months time.
or 1 r9 290x and another one is 3 months time.
or get 2 970's next month?
If anyone has a opinion on what would be good for me in therm of lasting long ect. i would love to hear it
Many thanks

AMD is announcing something on the 25th of september, possibly new gpus... 300 series? Might be worth waiting and seeing what it is.Otherwise, the 970 is way better value then the 980 or 290x. Avoid EVGA 970s though. Somehow they mismeasured their cards and the heat sink is not centered on the gpu... don't know how that happened
EVGA is an american company.... Maybe they outsourced their coolers... XD

2 different answers so 290x is out of the question I guess it's out dated. Still don't know what to choose
The 970 = gtx 780 ti. The 980 is quite a bit more powerful.
The 900 series run cooler and are a lot more power efficient.
Unless you are getting a 290x for 150 on ebay they are not worth it any more.

The very interesting thing in the 900 series apart from its performance is the power consumption, saying that almost all of the industries now were fully focused in reducing power consumption, this reduced in power consumption while having a great performance is very impressive.
You can run 4k using R9 290X but the amount of power consumed will hit you in the long run, while having a 980 or 970 which will be more expensive but the advantages in the long run is significant.
