r9 290 crossfire vs GTX 980
So I currently have a Tri-x R9 290, and am looking for a performance boost. I was unlucky enough to get a horrible over clocker, so it's just simply not an option. That said, All gtx 980's I've seen have been over clocking beasts, and a stock speed 290 vs OC 980 nets upwards of 50% in general High quality game play , and up to 100% in higher resolution setups( 5870x1080 ). My choices are, purchase another r9 290, and run them crossfire, or sell my 290 and buy a 980.

I'll add a Poll too, just to make that easier, but I'd still live verbal input. Thanks :)

If you are a complete fanboi please just don't bother replying, I like quality not bias Thanks.

Mhhm, that's generally what I'd say as well, however the restrictions on requiring a proper crossfire profile and the ability to upgrade to a second 980 if that need ever comes is a big swing in the green direction. Power isn't really an issue nor is cooling or space, but there will be situations where 290 crossfire will still lose out to a single 980 in 4k

Absolutely the 980 has it advantages. However, in your situation it makes much more sense just to get the extra card with the boost than to try and sell it. Make no mistake if you didnt have the 290 I would absolutely be recommending the 980.

I've been recommending the new 9 series cards unless you already have a card comparable. Then it just makes sense to crossfire. So in your case I would just get another 290. Makes much more sense.
