Guys please hear me out for a second, I already know 99% of you are gonna say 970 over 780 ti. But here in Canada we have a sale with 780 ti being close enough in price to 970. Power consumption is not that big an issue for me; I have a 700w power supply and I don't mind drawing a little extra power. So my question would be, is the 780 ti worth the little extra (60 bucks)? I've heard benchmarks that say the 970 comes close to the 780 ti, while others say it's below a 780.
btw I'm mostly looking at the evga sc version of the 970 and the gigabyte oc version of 780 ti

Tough call! I love my OC'd 780 ti, boosts to ~ 1260MHZ on air which should be able to match 980 at stock but the new features/tech the 970 and 980 offer is amazing and most gamers will take the newer options.
If SLI is in your future go 970 as the performance gap lessens and pretty much matches 780 ti SLI for an overall lower cost. If this is your only GPU upgrade for a while go with a 780ti OC'd.

Try this one from HexusI fail to comprehend that as relevant, it is only comparing one GTX 970 to other cards. not even of the same kind. Check what I have listed and you may want to find another.
We all know that the EVGA one listed in the temperature section of your review is faulty, as one third of the GPU is not covered by the heatpipes. Thus it again makes it an irrelevant choice of review.

Try this one from Hexus
I haven't said it is bad, I am simply stating that it is not as good as the other counterparts listed. Proof listed above if you wish to query. A review would be good for you to link, especially showing the 'silenter' operation.
"Most reviews say it's all but silent and very cool." <- don't know if that is worded right, get back to me on that.

I would redirect you towards the Gigabyte G1 instead, the strix runs hotter and louder with lower clock rates, which is surprising from an Asus Card. The MSI is also a equivalent to the Gigabyte. No Offense mate, but i've seen more good things then bad about the Asus. Most reviews say it's all but silent and very cool.
Check Out Guru 3D's reviews on the 970 based cards:

Thanks to JackNaylorPE for this info -
With MSI at 1325 clock, it hits a GPU temp of 68 C with PCB measurement points from 62C to 82C and a dbA of 39
With Giga at 1178 clock, it hits a GPU temp of 60 C with PCB measurement points from 57C to 61C and a dbA of 39
With Asus at 1114 clock, it hits a GPU temp of 69 C with PCB measurement points from 62C to 82C and a dbA of 39

The MSI is also a equivalent to the Gigabyte. Are you sure about that? Because Most of the reviews I've read had a different opinion. I was under the impression the strix was designed for silence? Between the 450 dollar gigabyte and the 780 ti I'd rather just take a 780 ti, since 780 ti and 970 oc'ed are pretty much neck and neck with the 780 ti pulling ahead more than the 970
As for the msi - meh it just doesn't look great (cooler design and no backplate) and it's more expensive
Where did you hear bad things about the strix? Everywhere I looked people had good things to say about it.
I pre-ordered a strix, although I can cancel if I must

I'm definitely leaning towards the 970 now upon further reading. The only pro I can think of with the 780 ti is that I can get it right now. And from what you guys said/ what I've read the evga does have some problems with coilwhine and whatnot, so I'm looking towards the asus strix right now. The msi is 420 canadian dollars, vs the strix at 380. The gigabyte is even more, at 450.
