The thing that's separates one card from another is the wide difference in quality between the power delivery systems and cooling of MOFSETS, memory voltage controllers etc. thatz what great about the Bit-Tech review is it gives ya all that info.

Go with the cheaper one Maxwell has pretty low TDP heating will not be a big issue with these beauties

The GB is at

on the reference models, EVGA has one out that's pre-OCed, add $20 :)

Why is there a 60$ difference between the two cards ?

Because the Gigabyte has far better cooling capabilities and a backplate

I will be purchasing the Superclocked GTX980 version from EVGA.

You won't be able to OC very far with that one. I'd wait until the other aftermarket cards get some more attention/reviews to see how they compare

Gigabyte if you want raw cooling performance and ASUS if you want quiet performance

There are pretty much no 980 Asus Strix or DCII, there is no MSI Gaming that I have seen so far. There are a few Gigabyte G1's and EVGA SC available right now (on amazon) but with extreme prices. If ya look at the roundup review, the MSI from a componentry and build standpoint stands well above the competition. Given that MSI had the best 780, the best 780 Ti and the best 970, until the MSI 980 (and Asus) comes out and we see some comparative reviews, I would stand pat.

I have only seen one non reference review by Guru#D on the Gigabyte, nothing on anybody else's

Given what I read about the power delivery, component cooling and capacitors / chokes used on the EVGA 970 on the bit-tech site, as well as the defective cooler.... I'm not holding much hope that that's gonna be the card of choice. Bit-tech ranked the 970 cards MSI > Asus > EVGA .... Giga wasn't in the test

But why is the design of the asus better ? The design of the gigabyte looks like old.

The design of the old Gigabyte Windforce was really good. The new one has what seems to be some improved fans and a nice backplate

I'm then undecided between EVGA and Gigabyte. Which one is best for overclocking and temperature ?

The Gigabyte Windforce will give you FAR better cooling than the EVGA ACX

Im talking about the stock GTX 980 with no acx cooler.

Wait, are you talking about all reference cards, or just the reference EVGA?

Just the reference EVGA GTX 980.

Oh well the Gigabyte Windforce will murder the reference EVGA
