Over the past few months I've been trying to search for that perfect monitor that'll comfortably suit my needs. Obviously I can't expect total perfection, but I would love to get close to it as possible. Currently I'm using an AOC Q2770PQU, though I've found it to have a really bad finish (mostly looks like horizontal lines that run across the screen as if it was marked somehow) on the panel that shows up really badly on darker tones of colour.
Anyway, the monitor I'm after will mostly be used for games and design work. I'm hoping I can find one that's around 27" and with a resolution of at least 2560x1440. Both a reasonable response time for games (around 5ms) and a strong level of colour accuracy are an absolute must-have for me. I'm not too concerned on refresh rates, as long as it's at least around 60hz I'm fine. In terms of budget I don't mind going up to around £500-700 if need be, since this has been a major annoyance for me for the past few months that I'd rather get settled already.
Can anyone point me in the direction of some solid monitors for this criteria? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

interesting, With mine there are no issues as far as calibration goes. Might want to check out this review also -

Sorry, maybe I'm a little ignorant on the subject. Is it just as effective as importing an ICC profile from tftcentral as it is to use a calibrator yourself?
It would also appear, having compared their review with the AOC Q2770PQU one they made recently that the ASUS model actually has a slighter faster response time as well, which is a very nice bonus. They also mentioned the AOC model being a poor choice for design work, which alarms me and only spurs me further into buying an alternative. There's a fair two year gap between the reviews so I'm unsure if they review to the standards of the time or if they've become more critical with more recent examples, either way they certainly seem to be very educated on the subject, so thanks for a very good source!
Further digging has also uncovered that ASUS recently also produced a European-exclusive PB278QR model, which supposedly uses an AH-IPS panel instead, though I can't seem to find much else on the matter but it might be of interest.

Funnily to know i did a custom calibration with mine, It is fairly simple to do also. With calibrating windows makes it clear and also gives you little hints on what each step does.I don't think calibrating it via windows is going to cut it for my needs. I was more along the lines of hardware calibration methods. I don't know, maybe I need to look at higher end models? 10-bit displays would be very nice to have.

I have that Ultra HD TN panel and it's great. The Asus however in terns of QHD is my favourite, after all my research that was what I concluded on.I've done a little more researching into the Asus monitor and it would seem that its out of the box calibration is somewhat lacking to begin with. You wouldn't happen to know any good ways of properly calibrating it would you?

I personally prefer Samsung's PLS displays over any other. Samsung do tend to be more expensive but their a quality supplier. AOC make great products and put great prices with them, which makes them defiantly appealing. For your needs however, The Asus PB278Q is a great choice, I still own one and love it, not as much as my Samsung UHD monitor but it's close.
Sorry to keep you waiting on a reply, your suggestion seems solid!
My previous two monitors, including this one, have both been AOC brand, so yes I do quite like them. However my current one which uses a PLS panel has some faint marks that show up on darker colours as previously mentioned, and I can't put my finger on whether that's actually a PLS issue or just a defective screen. I'm really hoping for the latter because this Asus PB278Q looks very good!
I would love to get a UHD monitor to be totally honest, but I think it'd put too much of a strain on my hardware, that and I'm unsure on if I'd even have the space on my desk for an even bigger monitor size. Are there even higher end models similar to the Asus I should keep an eye on? I'm willing to spend a little extra if it means a big improvement.

It looks neat, but that's a TN panel from what I can tell; not an IPS equivalent like PLS.
