MSI R7870 Hawk Stops sending Display Signal
A firend has had a problem with this video card, he has de MSI R7870 Hawk, and so far i know he has this as a mother board ECS P67H2-A3 and i7 2600, 8gb ram, PSU 600. In any case, the problem is he turns on the pc, everything worked correctly and after a couple of minutes the display would go black and that be the end of it, he would need to restart to get an image again. Now he has RMA'd the card twice, the first card worked for a full year before showing any problems. the second failed as soon as he installed it and so did the third. Also, for now he uses his old Saphire 7770.
TL;WR; weirdest GPU I have installed, with the display going black when going into Chrome or a videogame (Tested with Metro Last Light) and even uninstalling the drivers (this didnt happened when uninstalling the Nvidia ones).
Thanks in advance!
And Now for the wall of text
So he lend it to me to try it on my pc. ( Maximus Hero VI, i7-4770k, 16 gb ram, gtx 780, Corsair RM550) i uninstalled all the Nvidia Drivers, did a driver sweep, swapped the card, heres what happened:
First Try
Turned on the pc it acted like if it didnt had enough juice to power up and after a couple of times it turned on but nothing on the display ( i let it run for around 30-40 seconds). After this did a reset with the case button and now powered up fine but still not display.
Second try
I turned off the PSU disconnected it as to do a cold boot, powered the PC again and now there was the display, even got the warning that windows didnt shut down correctly last time. ( so computer did a correct boot last time). And now im using the windows vga display driver. I look for the drivers on chrome, and install them and restart pc. Again no display.
Third try
Repeat the process in second try, cold boot, and it worked, checked the GPU with GPU-Z and everything was all right and well detected, check up the Device Manager and theres the GPU, all seems that its running fine. Then I open google Chrome again and there goes the display again. After this I restarted, There is display again, and now i open Chrome right away and the display went black again but now the GPU seems it spinned the fans at full speed (must confess in a little panic attack turned of the PSU as soon as this sounded)
Fouth try (and last)
After this i tested again without opening chrome, now i opened steam, browsed the store, my games library and so far so good, i then decide to run Metro Last Light, and like 30 seconds in the intro the display gets black again. After this i just called it quits, restarted uninstalled the drivers (display went black again, while uninstalling the drivers, thought on leaving it for a while then rebooted so the windows driver kicks in), did a driver sweep to remove anything that might have not uninstalled from AMD, swapped to my GTX 780, and everything is smooth again.
