Hello everyone,
I have an important update for you regarding random installation hangs, BSODs and CCC crashes some of you have experienced after installing Catalyst 14.9 Driver. We are aware of these issues and will be posting an updated driver as soon as it becomes available. Please read this article for more information: “Intermittent Installation Issues With the AMD Catalyst™ 14.9 Driver”.
Thank you

[The 7000 series has been out for over 2 years now. There isn't much more performance improvments to make...Except that they left a LOT of performance problems on the table with the 7000 series about the time they ditched it and started working on multi GPU frame pacing instead, which they were always FAR behind Nvidia on.
AMD go by duration of support. Nvidia go by quality of support. I've been stung before on waning support for games that stuttered badly on the X1950Pro when they ditched it. Going green next time.
My last card was a GTS 250. I never had problems like that with it. People always make up a lot of excuses for AMD. It will be interesting to see now that they aren't the value leaders on high end how many will stay loyal to them.

When I first got my 7970 just under 2 years ago, I was amazed at how often drivers were coming out. AMD were quick to fix bugs and most new drivers really made a performance difference for the 7000 series. For some time now all I see are drivers specifically for the new APUs, the R series graphics GPUs, or Crossfire. It's like the rest of us don't exist anymore. They only focus on those buying new product.
Same thing happened with my X1950Pro, which shortly after buying it was relegated to Legacy support. The power and value of the Maxwell architecture and waning driver support of Catalyst, making AMD product life short lived, is why I am def going back to Nvidia next time.
My Sapphire 7970 OC also doesn't OC worth a damn. Even the exclusive AMD partners don't seem to get very good chip binning, which, along with poor software support, is why AMD GPUs don't review consistently well by users. It seems the number of low leakage chips within AMD's yields are less than Nvidia's.
The only real value to this GPU was having gotten it with a decent 3 game bundle, but I knew when I got it at best it was a get me by solution while waiting for high end Maxwell. It's green team all the way for me next time.
The 7000 series has been out for over 2 years now. There isn't much more performance improvments to make, and that is why they are focusing on the r9 290/290x/285 series cards. Don't forget that any improvements made for the r9 280x and below also cater to the 7000 series cards since they are just rebrands anyway.
Support lasted for the x1950 until the 4000 series was released so that was 3+ years. lol.
Your Sapphire OC card wasn't binned as a top GPU. It is just slightly higher than a stock card, and I'm not surprised that you can't go much higher. The Vapor-x and the Toxic GPUs are binned chips, since they are the more expensive models.
