MSI GTX 970 Fans issue (as if coil-whine wasn't enough)
Hi Guys,

Aside my personal experience, with a card sent back today due to a disastrous coil-whine (there is a thread on this section of the forum) I wanted to make you aware that MSI has admitted that their Fans system is faulty / buggy.

Head on the official thread on their forum https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=183618.0

I would honestly avoid to buy this card especially at this stage and either keep what you have or get the Asus as it seems the only one that actually work.

To quote the moderator of MSI official forum

MSI is aware of this issue. And I hope they will do something about this, otherwise this series or this card will be their failure, at least for the first week/s since release. :undecided:

I can't say anything about this, apart from the fact I feel sorry for you and obviously I'd be frustrated like you being unable to use the card normally. My luck is I never went for just released series of GPU/motherboards.

As Tech website ignore this news I thought it would be nice sharing with you guys and avoid a bad purchase!

I think 980 are better...I was even thinking of getting one instead of my 970, the point is that after current issues with 970's it is a bit of a gamble spending that much money for a card that may not even work!

I am sure that in AMD they all have a victory grim on their faces...

Mine is supposed to arrive tomorrow. I specifically bought this because it was said to have no coil whine and a very low noise level.

We are talking about MSI (some comments were made about the Gigabyte in other forums / threads)

It's rather strange that I never heard of any coil whine issues with any ASUS STRIX cards yet.

Glad to help guys... No one actually reported this news except me but I write gaming reviews for a foreign website :)

Mine had a very loud coil-whine and I have returned it to Novatech where I bought it so I will speak with them tomorrow and let's see... I have heard that the Gigabyte had coil-whine problems too however I have not investigated.

This lack of attention for details from MSI is very unusual but unfortunately we are talking about nearly £300 worth of card so it is unacceptable...as much as they are working on a fix they should have tested the card before release not just make fool of us and our hard earned money... I really cannot tolerate this (less than I tolerate DLC and Micro-transaction in games lol)

Ugh I hope this gets fixed and doesn't come with any future shipped products. Just ordered mine friday and i'm hoping its not defective, otherwise I might as well just cancel it now and swap it with a gigabyte or strix version of it.

And just when people thought EVGA was the only vendor having the issue (which could be fixed by adjusting the fan settings)...

Gigabyte G1 Gaming is also a good brand for 970 and 980
