R9 390X with HBM - Does it a Huge performance improvement?
I just read an article ( http://wccftech.com/amd-20nm-r9-390x-feautres-20nm-hbm-... )
about that the R9 390X & 380X are coming with HBM memory and this memory is up to 9X faster than GDDR5.
What differents will it make?
Does HBM is like GDDR6?
If the 390x is 20nm and really has 4224 SP and has HBM memory.
How much do you estimate it will be more powerful than the GTX 980?
Thank you, and sorry if these question are stupid.

I don't think it will, I may perform up to 5/7'ths of it. As said before, it is unknown.

Do you think it will be as powerful as the R9 295X2?

That's right, I always mess up the two, thanks.

I suspect you mean Asetek not Asustek.

I have seen all those leaked specs and all but nothing is known. This is all not known and is to hype up the awaiting crowd. Anything can change and anything could be wrong, one thing I am curious about is this -

The casing. A similar looking R9 295X2 casing but shorter, it is apparantly going to be liquid cooled by Asetek as of Chinese reports (just like the R9 295X2). This can suggest it is a hot running card.

Memory is leaked at 448GB/s but this is also leaked and from unreliable sources.

We also cannot judge differences by leaked information.

If its true, yes it will be much faster - should be competition for "big maxwell" (current GM204 is the medium size chip, GM210 or whatever they call it will be replacement for Titan/780/780Ti etc).
