You could check reviews on Techpowerup.com
At 1080p, they're quoting a 28% performance lead for the 970 SLI over the 980.

A single 980 is 10% better than single 970. SLI 970s is 50-60% better than single 970, so you'd get around 30-50% performance increase over single 980.

Wow, thank you everyone who voted for the help.

Upside ..... 970 SLI will toast the 980 in performance.

Downside .... on 1150 platform, there's no where to go from there.....can't add another 970.

Since the 5xx series, SLI on the 2nd or 3rd tier card has always been the best bang for the buck.

2 way SLI 970 would kill a single 980 in every aspect performance wise, best value/money. I'd go for SLI w/o doubts.

Percentage wise, what kind of better performance will I be expecting?

Another vote for 970 SLI
