New PC Build keeps turning on and off.
Hi everyone, this is my first pc build ever, so forgive me for being new.

First off, whenever I turn it on, it will run for about 3 seconds then turn off and repeat.

All the fans run (case, psu, and cpu). I've tried disconnecting everything and reconnecting everying (RAM, cpu, etc.) and it seems like no matter what I try, nothing works. If anyone has any idea what the problem is, I would very much appreciate the help.

Specs are as follows:

CPU: Intel Core i5-4460
MOBO: Gigabyte H81M-S2PH
GPU: Radeon R9 280
Ram: Kingston HyperX Fury 8GB
HDD: Western Digital Blue 1 TB
PSU: XFX Core Edition Pro 550w
ODD: Samsung 24x SATA

That PSU runs quiet - the fans don't turn on until you hit temps that require it. Enjoy the rig!

Corsair RM1000. It's fine, I called support and found out that the PSU fan is temp sensitive.

But everything works now. Installing my OS. Thanks again, I appreciate your help!

What PSU did you buy?

Hey guys thanks for all the answers. Upgraded both the power PSU and MOBO. Stays on now. Just can't get the PSU fan to work.

As a rule of thumb, the first component to replace is the PSU - with your GPU I would suggest a 650W PSU.

The PSU could be underpowered, try removing your GPU and power up. If that doesn't work - replace the PSU.

If the PSU replacement doesn't fix the problem - the most likely problem is the mobo.

ohhh u have a 280... might wanna upgrade ur PSU definetly lol didnt see ur specs

I was leaning more toward the PSU... Looking around other threads it seems that 550 watts isn't exactly ideal... I'm new, so I have no idea what the benchmarks for these are.

If it is turning on and off, maybe the CPU or PSU?

That's what I kinda figured. But it's trying to pinpoint which component. Any ideas?

If you have done each of the steps, and it still doesn't get to the post screen - you have a bad component in your build.
