so i'v been looking around to see what kind of wattage i need for a computer that I'm going to buy soon. The PSU wattage calculators are all over the place so I've abandoned them all togather. Will you guys please look at my build and help me find the wattage I actually need?
BUILD:
mobo: GIGABYTE GA-990FXA-UD3 AM3+ AMD 990FX + SB950 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard
CPU: AMD FX 6300
RAM: 2x4GB (4x4gb in the future)
GPU: AMD r9 280x (I want to crossfire in the future)
HDD 500GB 7200RPM (I want to add a 3-4TB drive and an SSD in the future)
CD Drive: DVD-RW/CD-RW
The PSU I Have in my build is a 900w PSU, But I don't know if that would be overkill.

There is no such thing as to big a PSU except a waste of money. Your rig will run fine on a Quality 550watt but if you are planning second GPU Quality 750-850 watt would handle it and 900watt would be fine. What about this one? I have a CX430M and it ran my old APU system just fine.

The CX is not their best, based on current prices and your plans I would go with this one XFX 850 http://pcpartpicker.com/part/xfx-power-supply-p1850snlb...

Check this tier list:

Look at what's inside your budget and pick a Tier 1 or Tier 2 PSU. Only go Tier 3 if you can't afford any others. Avoid any lower tiers.

If you want quality, go for the EVGA SuperNOVA G2. It can be the 750W or the 850W version. Make sure it's the G2 version. It also has a 10 year warranty. For a review:

Hi there, 800W is enough even for a CrossfireX. But be sure that this is a decent PSU like Seasonic or XFX. You can go with 900 if you want to, that doesnt looks to me like an overkill.
Have a nice day
Would you trust this COOLMAX?
