Optimum GPU for 2560x1440 Resolution Gaming?
All,

I bought an Asus ROG Swift 2560x1440 monitor and want to get some advice on a GPU that will allow me to play games (RPGs w/ several mods,FPS,Strategy, etc.) in the 50fps and up range, on high or ultra video settings. I usually upgrade my GPU (as well as other components) every two years, and want something that will hold up.

I was thinking either a single GTX 970 (great power/price) or GTX 980 (modesty better). Also, I am entertaining an SLI set-up, but am skeptical due to concerns regarding temperature, noise, and compatibility issues, but I can probably get 2 GTX 970's for the price of 1 GTX 980.

Thoughts?

Current System:
- Intel i7-3770k
- Sapphire Vapor-X Radeon HD 7970 Ghz Edition 3GB 384-Bit GDDR5
- 180GB Intel SSD
- MSI 277A-G41
- 16GB G.Skill Ripjaws X Series
- Soundblaster X-Fi Titanium HD
- 32" Samsung 1920x1080p 120Hz TV
- 5.1 Onkyo Surround Sound System

If you want noise suppression- like I did... Go for the Fractal Design R4. It's big, but inside it is lined with sound dampening material. The case fans are very quiet and provide good airflow. There are only 2 fans though, but it is enough for my single GTX970.

4GB of VRAM is sufficient.

Go for the SLI GTX970 if you don't mind spending the $650-$800.

You will be able to max out 99% of games :)

A single 970 will not have a problem with 1440p though.

Noise and temps will be fine for single or SLI.

I have the MSI GTX970, I cannot hear it. When gaming it is very low.

I was thinking of getting a new case anyway to aid in noise suppression, mine sounds like a car running now. Do you think 4GB or Vram is sufficient at 1440p?
