3 pin case fans to 4 pin header... can i change the fan speeds?
Hello everyone, I believe I have found my dilemma with my inability to change my fan speeds using programs or BIOS, but I want to make sure...

I have a 3 pin CPU fan plugged into a 4 pin header on the mobo listed as CPU.
1) Can I change that fans speed in any way at all?
2) Can I modify it, or do I have to get a new fan altogether?

This is my motherboard: M5A97 LE R2.0

The fan is a generic 120mm fan being used with an asetek 550lc liquid cooler.

1. No chance you can control the fan with 3-pin (non-PWM).
2. To control/change the speed of fan, fan should have PWM system (with 4-pin connector). PWM = Pulse Width Modulation

Thanks abmario.

1. No chance you can control the fan with 3-pin (non-PWM) unless you have Software like FanXpert (Asus Suite)
2. To control/change the speed of fan, fan should have PWM system (with 4-pin connector). PWM = Pulse Width Modulation
