Radeon 7650M drivers giving error 43 after install
So I recently re-installed my HP ProBook 4740s with the original OS: Windows 7 Professional 64-bits. I've been able to install every driver just fine (except for some unknown one which I'll do later), but my second GPU: Radeon 7650M fails to start and gives me: Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43). I have installed AMD Catalyst Control Center, which seems to install a different driver because "Update driver software" gives me a different version. Neither one of those two work.

Yes, that's because HP implemented the hardware in a way that deviates from the reference model. Laptop manufacturers do this to provide variations in capabilities, such as different support for external monitors. (My Mobiltiy Radeon HD 5470M never had any update from Sony, but, thank God, works with the driver released by AMD). It differs.

That did the trick. It's weird that when I press "update drivers" it installs the driver causing the error. The one on the HP site was an older driver but seemed to work just fine.

For laptop GPUs always install the latest version driver provided by the laptop manufacturer website not from GPU manufacturer website. Otherwise, chances for driver error are high.
